Pad Program
Most of the women we work with in Southeast Asia have limited access to personal hygiene items. It’s not that they don’t want to care for their body. Its that they are either in a war area or refugee camp in the jungles. Which means there are no stores. Because of this they have learned how to make do with what they have. Which is rubbing ash on the legs, use bamboo leaves or just sitting until their period leaves them.
In 2018 we took the Pad Project to Northern Thailand for the first time. We had great success! This year we chose to do it again at a refugee camp with women of all ages. We discovered that there is not only the need for reusable pads but there is also a need for teaching the women how to truly care for their bodies. Something as an America woman we take for granted since we are taught at a young age how to care for ourselves.
We want to empower the women to not only make their own pads but we also want to give them the spiritual tools they need to continue to grow in their faith so that they can take ownership in their own communities.
The last 2 years we have brought all the items to make the reusable pads. We have been doing for them when they can be doing for themselves. Bloom International wants to improve this model by having the women in their countries not only make the pads but use local trade to purchase the material.
In order to make this happen we need your help! To start this program, we need $8,833.00. This will allow us to hire 1 woman at 20 hours a month.
This would allow us to reach 500 women and give them 4 pads each in 2020.
